As some of you already know, I do my best to learn the Italian language. In here and also out of here. After I strumbled from one trap to another I finally run against the wall of give reasons in Italian. Like learned in the courses, like read on some web sites I always used 'perchè' to give reasons. Some day I got corrected, and my 'perchè' was replaced by 'poichè'.

I asked a few people ( ) to explain me the reason for the correction and the way of using 'poichè'. Nobody could or wanted to explain me... hehe... And I got the hint to use 'perchè' in every case. Of course I'll follow this this hint (for my own well-beeing tongue.gif).

But maybe in here someone is able to explain this to me? cry.gif

You have to use 'poiché' when the causal clause precedes the main one.

Ex.: Poiché ho fame, mangio. (And not: Perché ho fame, mangio.)

If you express the main clause first, then you can use 'perché' or 'poiché' without distinction.

Ex.: Mangio perché/poiché ho fame.

Thank you both!!

So, let me see if I got it right:

> Poiché mi hai aiutato, ti ringrazio.
> Ti ringrazio perché (o poiché) mi hai aiutato.

By the way, another thing confused me... are the two words written with e grave (è) or e acuto (é)? I've seen both.

CITAZIONE (Yamashita @ 29/3/2006, 21:05)
Grazie ^^"

E is female? Boh... *grml*

yep, E is female

yes, the right accent in perché and poiché is this -> é
but.... since on the keyboard to have that accent you should press shift, and since many of us are lazy or don't really know this thing ( in the "handwriting" we don't gave much importance to the fact if the accent is grave or acuto ^^) you can find those words also written in this way: poichè, perchè

I hope I explained it clearly... :megure:
